What is Your Next Step?
What is Your Next Step?
As followers of Jesus, we should be looking at His life as the example of what our life is supposed to look like. When we pursue deeper identity, belonging, and purpose, this is what defines us as His disciples.
The thing that stands out most about the life of Jesus was His relationships. These relationships can be classified in three different dimensions: reaching, connecting, and sending. An easy way to understand what this looks like is by viewing it as a triangle with each point representing a different relational dimension.
A balanced disciple has healthy relationships in all three areas: with God, our church community, and the world. Many times we can identify one of these areas that we are better or stronger at than others, but there are also areas in which we can improve. Our goal is to achieve balance in discipleship.
Not sure where your next step in discipleship should be or want to learn more about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus? Sign up for our NEXT class and join others in discovering where God is leading you in your journey in following Him.
Reaching: Jesus’s first priority was His relationship with God the Father. He spent intentional time with Him and challenged His disciples to do the same. Reaching describes the relationship that we have with God and how we grow closer in that relationship with Him. (Luke 6:12)
Sending: Jesus also developed relationships with those He was sent to the world for; the people that did not yet know Him. And Jesus wasn’t afraid to relate to outsiders no matter what others thought. Sending describes our relationships with people who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus. (Luke 6:17-19)
Connecting: Jesus also focused His time on building relationships with His closest friends. He gave them access to the deepest parts of His life and lived out His calling with them. Connecting describes our relationships with other followers of Jesus and how we grow deeper in those relationships. (Luke 6:13-17)

In a world where sexual abuse, violence, racism, oppression, and injustice dominate the headlines and plague our world, how do we follow Jesus without looking like everyone else? Jesus came to bring hope for the needy and set the captive free, so what does it look like to be a part of the Church in the 21st century.
Throughout the month of July, we will be engaging in a journey of discipleship together. We'll be exploring the spiritual, political, societal, and relational implications of following a God who fights for the oppressed, cares for the sick, and restores what has been broken.
By joining this discipleship journey, you'll be able to stay connected with others in an online community, dig deeper into the content of the week's teaching, and be challenged into deeper discipleship through tangible action.
